Base coat: what is it and what is it for?

We tend to confuse base coat and top coat, and yet, these two types of varnish are very different and each have their uses in your manicure. In this article, Maryton Nail Supply will tell what is base coat and what is it for. Read on!

The base coat or varnish base is a specific type of varnish that is applied as a first layer, on the natural nail and under the varnish layer. The base coat is generally transparent, even if we find rose, apricot or peach colored varnished base coats.

The base coat has several uses: not only will it protect the nail from the varnish and the chemicals it contains (and prevent it from yellowing under the effect of the varnish), but it will also take care of it. In fact, base coats are often enriched with amino acids, vitamins, vegetable oils or serum.

So, depending on the varnish, it could in effect hydrate the nail, strengthen and harden it, smooth it or stimulate its growth. There are also varnish bases that can de-yellow the nails.

Do not confuse the base coat and the top coat. The top coat is applied last, after the varnish, to fix it and make it shine.

Hoping that this article has pleased you and will give you ideas! In addition to the base coat, I recommend investing in some professional manicure sets to care for your nails.
