The Ultimate Guide to Removing Gel Tips

Are you ready to get salon-quality nails in the comfort of your own home? Maybe gel tips are a long-lasting solution for beautiful nails without the need for frequent salon visits. With a little know-how and a lot of patience, you’ll be able to apply and remove gel tips like a pro. In this guide, Maryton Supply will give you an ultimate guide to removing gel tips.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

For easy removal of your gel tips, make sure you have the following tools:

  • Acetone
  • Aluminum foil or nail polish remover wrappers
  • Cotton balls or pads
  • Manicure kit (including nail file, buffer block and wooden stick)
  • Cuticle oil

Step 2: Prep Your Nails

Use a coarse nail file to roughen the surface of the gel tips to break the seal of the polish and allow the acetone to penetrate more effectively. For best results, buff off as much of the gel polish as possible. Apply cuticle oil to the edges of your nails to protect your skin from the drying effects of acetone.

Step 3: Soak Your Nails

Soak a cotton pad or cotton ball in acetone and place it directly on each gel tip. Wrap each fingertip with aluminum foil to hold the cotton ball or pad in place and create a barrier to trap heat and speed up the removal process. Let your nails soak in acetone for 10-15 minutes to soften the nail glue.

Step 4: Remove Gel Tips

After soaking, gently press the foil-wrapped cotton ball or pad and twist to loosen and remove the nails. Use a cuticle stick or our gel polish remover tool to gently remove any remaining residue from your natural nails. Be patient and avoid forcing or removing the gel tips, as this may damage your natural nails.

Step 5: Post-Removal Care

Once all nails are removed, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to remove any remaining acetone residue. Apply cuticle oil to nourish and hydrate your nails and cuticles, replenishing the moisture lost during the removal process.

We recommend taking a two-week break between applications and allowing your natural nails to breathe and recover.
